2019 C7 Corvette ZR1 Allegedly Ran 7 Minute-Plus Time Around Nürburgring
We know the Corvette team has plans for an official lap time at the Nürburgring with the 755-horsepower 2019 Corvette ZR1, and last week, we spotted the car.
The ZR1 was likely prepping for an official lap run, but perhaps the car simply isn’t as quick as the team once imagined. Information from Bridge to Gantry suggests the C7 Corvette ZR1 managed a 7:12.00 lap time.
Foremost, that’s still an improvement over the C6 Corvette ZR1, which clocked a 7:19 years ago. But, it’s pretty far off from Corvette lead engineer’s wish for a sub-seven-minute lap time. To be clear, the lap time was by no means official, but car spotters at the Nürburgring timed the Corvette to reveal the unofficial time. Chevrolet took over the famed track for a couple of runs, and spotters reported the 7:12 time after the Corvette exited the track.
It’s completely possible the driver wasn’t giving the Corvette its all, either. Or, perhaps some sort of mechanical failure occurred. We don’t know, but something seems awry with the reported time. If the Corvette team can’t break out of the seven-minute mark, or at least come close, we have a feeling there will be some disappointed faces.
