2020 Toyota Corolla Takes to the Streets of Los Angeles

The 2020 Toyota Corolla has been spied testing, wearing significantly less camouflage compared to the last time we saw it.

Prototypes are now testing in Southern California and with the heavy camouflage removed, we get a better idea of the next-generation Corolla’s styling. Up front, its headlights appear to be similar to the units found on the recently unveiled Toyota Corolla Hatchback, which is closely related to the Toyota Auris in Europe.

There are a few other changes we can see, including the addition of a small window near the A-pillar and an updated C-pillar design. It does appear the overall dimensions of the Corolla won’t change significantly.

We think the Corolla sedan will bear a strong resemblance to the new Corolla Axio for Japan, which is pictured above in an image from Japanese motoring magazine Best Car. The Corolla Axio is shorter and narrower than the regular Corolla, but based on these images, we believe the new Corolla sedan and new Axio will look nearly identical

Toyota customers can expect major changes inside the cabin, as the Corolla looks to address some of the current generation’s shortcomings. There’s a larger, more prominent screen in the center, along with new controls. If Toyota follows the Corolla Hatchback, expect the sedan’s SE trim to benefit from standard Entune 3.0 audio with an eight-inch touchscreen, six speakers, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa integration.

More standard features are also likely, giving the Corolla more appeal in a competitive segment. Look for single-zone automatic climate control, leather shift knob, paddle shifters, electronic parking brake, SmartKey system, and two front USB outlets to all be included at no additional cost.

Powering the Corolla will be a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, paired to either a six-speed manual transmission or CVT.
