Bugatti’s “over the air” system is as meticulous as it is important. You don’t expect anything less from the French automaker. According to Motor Authority, the automaker’s mobile network in the company headquarters in Molsheim, France sends and receives telemetry data from each individual Chiron. Should there be an issue regarding a specific model, the owner of the model will be contacted immediately to address it.
These issues range from a seemingly trivial issue like low tire pressure to serious issues that require the car to be physically inspected. In the case of the latter, Bugatti will send one of its heralded “flying doctors” to the address of the owner where he will give the car a thorough inspection before determining what’s wrong with it.
Since Bugatti only plans to build 500 units of the Chiron, the company has improved its monitoring system to the extent that each individual Chiron will be monitored by the company. Granted, there may be privacy issues at play here, but Bugatti isn’t going to do anything until it gets approval from the owner. If the owner declines to have his Chiron monitored, the company says that it won’t switch it on. If the owner agrees to the stipulations, only a limited number of people will have access to the data.

Bugatti sales boss Hendrik Malinowski compares the company’s “over the air” system to an on-call personal concierge service. Anywhere in the world, if an owner of the Chiron an issue with the car, the service will spring to action and help resolve whatever ails the multi-million ride. “With our telemetry system, we can provide our customers with assistance in all technical matters related to their Bugatti, at any hour of the day and, if necessary, also of the night,” Malinowski said.
It is understandable that Bugatti would want to know anything and everything about the cars it builds considering how expensive they are. But, there are questions about privacy here that some owners may not be too comfortable dealing with. Either way, it’s up to the owners to decide what suits them or not. Bugatti will acquiesce no matter what it is.
