Low budget rides don’t get the same exposure as posher vehicles on the internet, but that’s to be expected. Even so, the Kicks hasn’t been left behind, as it’s Nissan’s latest offering in the burgeoning subcompact SUV segment.

Said to have been developed with young buyers in mind, as a collaboration between the brand’s USA, Brazil and Japan branches, it’s the Japanese automaker’s smallest crossover and slots in the lineup under the Rogue Sport.

However, while it has been labelled a Juke replacement, Nissan says that’s not the case despite its subcompact size, affordable price and decent interior for the price paid.

The Kicks kicks off (sorry, we just can’t help it…) from just under $18,000 in the United States, excluding destination and handling fees. All versions benefit from a 7-inch touchscreen color display, a customizable gauge cluster and automatic emergency braking, although the latter doesn’t come with a pedestrian-recognizing feature.

On the outside, it looks more conservative than the Juke, and things aren’t that bad inside, either. Despite the cheap plastics and limited optional extras, it’s quite okay for the price. DrivenCarReviews found the backseat to be quite roomy and the boot space decent, though the infotainment system’s interface was dubbed ‘rudimentary’.

The sole engine option for the Kicks is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 125hp (127PS / 93kW) and 115lb-ft (156Nm) mated to a CVT gearbox. As for what it feels like on the road, as well as the rest of the details, you’ll have to click on the video link right below.
