BaT Auction: 3K-Mile 2001 Chevrolet Camaro Intimidator SS 6-Speed
This 2001 Chevrolet Camaro Intimidator SS is #74 of 83 special edition cars that were produced and sold through Dale Earnhardt’s dealership in the early 2000’s. Finished in black with a silver shaker hood stripe, it is powered by a 5.7L LS1 V8 and 6-speed manual transmission. This example was purchased new by the current owner and has remained in California for its entire life. The Intimidator models were manufactured with the help of Chevy tuner GMMG and featured numerous upgrades over standard cars. The original window sticker, Intimidator build documentation, and various service records are included in the sale. Now showing just 3,200 miles on the odometer, the car is offered on consignment by the selling dealer with a clean Carfax and clean California title.
All Intimidator models featured a black painted body that is accented with a silver hood scoop, a 1970s-style grille insert with SS badge, a matte black center panel, and Intimidator SS badging on the fenders and taillight panel. This particular car was ordered without t-tops and the roof panel was repainted a few years ago due to bubbling on the factory finish.
Progressive lowering springs and 17×9.5″ American Racing 200S wheels were also part of the Intimidator package. This car currently wears a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 tires.
The interior is trimmed in black leather and includes the Preferred Equipment Group and an electric rear window defogger. Additionally, the Intimidator package replaced the factory shifter with a Dale Earnhardt aftermarket shifter.
A Monsoon 500w sound system is present on the dash and Intimidator badges can be seen near the center vents and on the ashtray door. The odometer currently shows just 3,200 miles. Note that this car is not one of the 33 cars that had their dash signed by Mr. Earnhardt prior to his death.
The 5.7L LS1 V8 received multiple upgrades as part of the build by GMMG, including an upgraded exhaust and carbon fiber center intake duct as shown above. Some service records dating to new are included in the sale.
Multiple undercarriage photos detailing the condition of the chassis, suspension, driveline, and other components can be seen in the gallery below.
Various period documents have been provided as shown in the gallery. Notable items include the original window sticker, purchase order, and Intimidator SS options sheet showing a dealer MSRP of $40,381.
The provided Carfax shows a California history from new and can be viewed below. Two keys with the correct cloisonne numbered key chains are included in the sale.
