BaT Auction: 53K-Mile 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport at No Reserve
This 2001 Jeep Cherokee is a 4×4 Sport model showing 53k miles and finished in Stone White over Camel cloth. Reportedly a former government fleet vehicle that was sold new in Florida, the truck was brought to California by its second owner in early 2017 and recently acquired by the selling dealer. Power is from a 4.0-liter inline-six paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission, and records are included for recent service to the brake, cooling, and air conditioning systems as well as the transmission and more detailed below. This XJ recently passed a California emissions test and is offered with a window sticker, recent receipts, and a California title.
The body is finished in Stone White with a color-matched grille and black-capped bumper center sections. The seller believes that the tailgate may have been repainted. The vehicle was originally optioned with roof rails, heavy duty suspension, a Trac-Lok differential, and factory skid plates as well as numerous interior upgrades.
Factory 5-spoke wheels wear fresh Hankook Dynapro all-terrain tires. New front brake rotors, calipers, and pads were installed in 2017, and the rear wheel cylinders were replaced.
The Camel interior offers cloth seating with black door and dash accents. The Sport Value Group option includes power locks, windows, and mirrors as well as a tilt steering column with a leather-wrapped wheel. A new air conditioning compressor was installed and the system was recharged in 2017.
The dash retains a factory cassette stereo and a digital odometer that reportedly reads 53k miles. The rear cargo area houses a space-saver spare and is shown with its rubber mat pulled back below.
The 4.0-liter inline-six traces its roots to the American Motors 232ci six introduced in 1964, and in this application was originally rated at 190 horsepower. Fluids and filters were changed in 2017, and an oil leak was repaired. The water pump was replaced, and new radiator and heater hoses were fitted. Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission and Command-Trac 4WD system with high and low ranges. The Up Country Suspension group added a transmission cooler as well as a Trac-Lok rear differential.
The window sticker indicates a Cherokee Sport with the Sport and the Up Country Suspension groups and shows an original MSRP of over $24k.
