BaT Auction: Minerva Blue 1979 Porsche 911SC Coupe
This 1979 Porsche 911SC Coupe is finished in its original color combination of Minerva Blue Metallic over black leatherette and shows 124,808 miles. According to the selling dealer, this car was a special-ordered for Tourist Delivery and has been kept by three local Oregon owners from new. Factory options include Bilstein shocks, a black headliner, two rear shelf speakers, and an electric sunroof. Power comes from the matching-numbers 3.0-liter flat-six, which is mated to the original 915 5-speed manual transaxle. A stainless steel Billy Boat muffler and an upgraded stereo system have been added, and recent maintenance consisted of an engine reseal, Carrera tensioners, a valve adjustment, new clutch, drive axles, oil lines, wheel bearings, brakes, and an alignment. This Porsche is now being offered with 150+ photos, documentation from new including the original Tourist Delivery materials, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, the factory manuals, and a clean Oregon title.
According to records, this 911SC was repainted around a decade ago to correct general wear and tear commensurate with age. No evidence of prior damage or body repairs has been found. The exterior is detailed from multiple angles in the extensive photo gallery below.
A set of 16″ Fuchs alloy wheels are currently equipped, and are mounted with 205/55 front and 225/50 rear Bridgestone RE970AS Pole Position tires. Each corner is also highlighted in the gallery.
The black leatherette interior is accented by an optional black headliner along with a corresponding black dashboard and carpets.
Aftermarket interior additions are apparently limited to upgraded speakers and a Blaupunkt Toronto 420BT head-unit. The 6-digit mechanical odometer shows 124,808 miles, approximately 20k of which were added by the previous owner over the past eight years.
The 3.0-liter flat-six produced 180 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 175 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpm when new. Carrera tensioners have been installed, and a host of recent maintenance is documented within the 100+ page service file.
Engine #6292308 is depicted above, and transmission #199152 is shown in the gallery below. Both stampings match the included Certificate of Authenticity.
The stainless steel Billy Boat muffler is shown above. Additional detailed undercarriage photos are displayed in the gallery below.
