BaT Auction: 1991 Ford Ranger XLT
This 1991 Ford Ranger XLT pickup was delivered new in Minnesota and remained in-state until last year, when it was sold to the second owner and moved to South Dakota. The selling dealer acquired the truck two months ago showing 5,700 miles, a number he believes accurate based on the condition of the vehicle. The 3.0-liter V6 sends power to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission, and recent work involved a maintenance inspection at a local Ford dealer along with changing fluids and filters as described below. The truck has reportedly been shown at local car gatherings, and a participation badge can be seen in the gallery. This Ford Ranger is now being offered with an accident-free Carfax report and a clean South Dakota title.
Raven Black (A) paint is complemented with lower-body tape stripes, a chrome step bumper, and Ranger-branded mud flaps. The Leer Crown shell is a period accessory, and a tailgate decal indicates that this truck was sold new at Art Goebel Ford in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.
Twin I-Beam suspension with coil springs and disc brakes can be found up front, while leaf springs with drums were standard out back. The XLT package included power steering, while all 1991 Rangers came with rear ABS. Stock 14″ steel wheels wear deluxe trim rings and Firestone Outline White Letter P215/70 tires.
The XLT option package included a 60/40 split bench seat, AM/FM cassette stereo, tachometer, and a sliding rear window. This example has the optional tilt steering wheel with cruise control. The 5-digit odometer shows just over 5,700 miles.
The 3.0-liter Vulcan V6 was originally rated at 145 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. Ranger automatic transmissions for 1991 had four forward gears with overdrive gearing in fourth. At 5,200 miles, the engine oil/filter were changed, the transmission fluid was flushed, and the radiator was filled with new coolant.
Additional undercarriage photos are available in the gallery.
The Carfax indicates no accidents or other damage reported. The reported mileage jumps from 1,000 miles in 1993 to 14k miles in 1995 and 200k miles in 1996. The seller believes this to be a clerical error, though no supporting documentation is included to confirm the indicated mileage.
