BaT Auction: 1965 Shelby Cobra CSX6000
This 1965 Shelby Cobra is a CSX6000 continuation model that was ordered by the seller from Shelby American, Inc. in Las Vegas, Nevada. The car features a fiberglass body over a tube chassis and has been finished in Ferrari Rosso Corsa with navy blue stripes. Power comes from a period 484ci big-block Ford V8 estimated to produce over 500 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a Ford NASCAR 4-speed toploader transmission. New intake manifold gaskets were installed within the past month, and new Manton pushrods were also added. Now showing just over 3,000 miles on the odometer, this Cobra is offered with a build log, service records, and a Shelby statement of origin. It is currently registered as a 1965 model and carries a clean Louisiana title in the seller’s name.
The headlights have been upgraded with tri-bar housings, and the tail lights have been converted to LEDs. QuickJack mounting points and yellow tow hooks are installed front and rear, and three Raydyot competition mirrors are included in the sale. Protective 3M clear film is present on the nose and the leading edges of the rear fenders.
The car is being relisted after failing to meet reserve in a February 2018 BaT auction, and additional photos can be seen in the previous gallery.
An exterior and interior walk-around video can be viewed above. The windshield has been removed because the seller prefers the look without it, but is included in the sale and can be reinstalled prior to delivery if desired. The car is filled with a full-width 4-post roll bar was created by Olthoff Racing in Mount Ulla, North Carolina.
The buyer will have the choice of either the set of Wimbledon White Halibrand 15″ aluminum wheels with Goodyear Eagle tires pictured above or the gold 289 FIA-style 15″ aluminum wheels with AVON competition radial tires shown in other photos.
The interior is equipped with carpeting under Shelby-logo floor mats and a set of 4-point AJS harnesses. Some photos show the car with a custom fixed-back driver’s race seat, though the seller notes that the original seat has been reinstalled and that the race seat is not included in the sale. A fire extinguisher and battery are mounted behind the seats.
A 3-spoke Moto-Lita steering wheel is present along with a Cobra shifter and 12-volt power plug. The dash features Shelby American gauges including a proper reversed speedometer, and just 3,020 miles are shown on the odometer.
The engine was built by Bill Parham of Southern Automotive in McDonough, Georgia on a NOS 1968 Ford 427FE cast iron side-oiler block with a 2L26 date code. A stroker kit has pushed the engine to 484ci, with further modifications and components including:
