Should You Shell Out For The Audi Q2 Or Get VW’s T-Roc Instead?

Should You Shell Out For The Audi Q2 Or Get VW’s T-Roc Instead?

The VW T-Roc and Audi Q2 perfectly illustrate VW Group’s strategy of sharing components across its many brands. Both compact SUVs share the MQB architecture, engine lineup, and technology.

So is choosing one of them a matter entirely related to design and price? Carwow tries to find that out by giving the two SUVs a comprehensive comparative assessment.

The T-Roc gets a head start because it’s priced from around £19,000 in the UK, whereas a base Audi Q2 costs around two grand more.

But base prices don’t tell the entire story. Standard equipment varies from one model to the other, and so does quality. Whereas cheap, scratchy plastics are everywhere inside the T-Roc’s cabin, the Q2 pampers its passengers with soft-touch plastics and high-quality materials. That’s to be expected from a premium model, isn’t it?

However, the T-Roc fights back when it comes to practicality, thanks to its slightly roomier back seat and larger boot. As for driving characteristics, the Audi and the VW are difficult to separate given they’re almost identical underneath.

As with most German cars, standard equipment is quite spartan, so you’ll need to spend a bit to get them in decent specifications. Just don’t tick too many boxes on the list of optional extras, because you might be driving their price north of £30,000.

In the end, choosing one of these two vehicles is a matter of priorities and personal preference, especially when it comes to styling. So, which one would you choose?
