Audi Starts Production Of New A1 At Seat’s Martorell Plant

The new A1 has entered production at Seat’s Martorell plant in Spain, making it the second Audi to be produced there after the Q3 SUV.

Audi’s supermini will be exclusively produced there following the success of the previous-gen Q3, which is produced at the Seat facility since 2011. The previous generation of the Audi A1 was produced in Brussels, while the new Q3 is now manufactured in the Györ factory in Hungary.

Martorell is producing the new A1 on the revamped Line 3 in two shifts.“The Audi A1 will be made under the highest quality standards, confirming the Audi Group’s commitment to the Martorell factory as a strategic production location for the Volkswagen Group’s global network,” said Seat Vice-president for Production and Logistics Dr. Christian Vollmer.

The Audi A1 is the third new model to be produced in the Martorell factory, following the introduction of the Seat Ibiza in early 2017 and of the Seat Arona a few months later. As a result, more than 500 workers were recruited with a permanent contract.

“Over the last years, the Martorell plant with its highly qualified employees has produced our Audi Q3 and made this model a great success,” said Peter Kössler, Audi’s Board of Management Member for Production and Logistics. “The plant has gained a lot of experience with our extremely quality-oriented Audi production system. Therefore, Martorell is for us the ideal place to manufacture our new Audi A1, one of our strategic pillars in this segment.”
