BaT Auction: 1972 Datsun 240Z 5-Speed
This 1972 Datsun 240Z was acquired by the selling dealer three months ago and given a glass-out repaint in its original red color. Power comes from the 2.4-liter straight-six mated to an upgraded 5-speed manual gearbox and work conducted in preparation of the sale included an interior refresh, as well as inspections of the engine, suspension, and braking systems. Modifications include a front spoiler, Eibach springs, upgraded sway bars, a full exhaust system, an aftermarket radio, and a pair of JDM taillights. This 240Z is now offered in Oklahoma with various receipts and records, and a clean Oregon title.
Work conducted by the seller’s shop included removing the doors, hood, glass, and hatch prior to being repainted in its original red (110). According to the seller, the original rockers and floors remain intact, and the passenger-side dogleg was replaced. All new exterior trim is fitted and stock bumpers remain mounted at both ends.
A walk-around video detailing the exterior and interior can be seen above.
The glass-out repaint is highlighted through numerous in-progress photos in the gallery below.
Ride height is lowered using a set of Eibach springs, while both front and rear sway bars are upgraded units.
The interior was refreshed while the car was repainted and is trimmed in black vinyl with a factory faux wood steering wheel, and aftermarket radio. The seller notes the dash is free of cracks, and several photos detail the condition of the interior materials along with the floor and trunk pans. The clock is currently inoperable and the 5-digit mechanical odometer displays 40,500 miles, though is believed to have rolled over once.
According to the seller, interior paint remains original and sound deadening was applied to the floors prior to being reassembled.
The 2.4-liter L24 inline-six retains its factory SU carburetors and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The valve cover was pulled and the engine was inspected and serviced at the seller’s facility just prior to the auction.
Several underbody photos are viewable in the gallery and show the condition of the drivetrain, suspension, and chassis. An aftermarket exhaust system includes a header and 2.5″ stainless steel piping. A pair of driving videos can be seen below.
