BaT Auction: 1983 Mazda RX-7 GSL
This 1983 Mazda RX-7 GSL was purchased new by the seller’s father in French Canada and is finished in Sunbeam Silver Metallic over a cloth interior with striped seats. The odometer now shows 112k kilometers (~69k miles), and power comes from a carbureted 12A rotary engine backed by a 5-speed manual gearbox. Service records are said to date back about 10 years, and a repaint was reportedly performed in the early 2000s. The car has been driven just over 1,000 kilometers since 2015, when the oil was last changed and new front brakes were installed. This FB RX-7 is now being offered in Montgomery Center, Vermont with the factory owner’s manual and a Quebec registration in the name of the seller’s mother.
The seller states that there was some minor damage to the side of the car that was repaired in 1984, and also that a repaint was carried out about 15 years ago in the factory Sunbeam Silver Metallic. Corrosion is noted on the door hinges as can be seen in the gallery below, and the passenger-side headlight washer cover is missing along with the glass roof panel.
13″ factory wheels wear 185/70 Kumho Solus tires, and a service in October 2015 at 110,834 kilometers included new front brake calipers, rotors, and pads.
The interior is upholstered in striped cloth and remains stock down to the factory stereo system with equalizer and factory air conditioning. Instrumentation includes a 200 km/h speedometer, and the seller indicates that 112k kilometers (~69k miles) are currently showing on the odometer.
The 12A rotary engine is backed by a 5-speed manual transmission, and the last oil change was performed in summer 2015. A new battery has more recently been installed, and slight leaks are noted from the oil pan and differential.
Additional lift shots are attached in the gallery below, showing the exhaust, suspension, rear end, and sills.
Service going back 10 years are included along with the factory owner’s manual and key. The car is registered in Quebec with the seller’s mother, though it is stored just across the border in Montgomery Center, Vermont. The importation process will need to be completed if the car is purchased by a US buyer.
