BaT Auction: 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC

This 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC is finished in black over black and powered by a 5.6L V8 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The seller purchased the car two years ago and has reportedly added just 500 of its 144k indicated miles. It has been lowered over AMG Monoblock wheels, and recent service included installation of a new battery, Bilstein shocks, accumulators, braking parts, and more. This W126 is offered with stock lighting, an H&R lowering kit, records from current ownership, sales literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clear North Carolina title in the seller’s name.

The body is finished in black, and the seller has had the lower body moldings and bumpers painted to match. European-market front marker lamps and tail lamps have been fitted, and the factory lenses are included in the sale. Scratches and other blemishes are shown in detail in the gallery.

AMG Monoblock wheels are mounted with staggered-width 18″ Achilles ATR Sport tires bearing 2017 date codes. The suspension has been lowered by cutting the front springs, and an H&R lowering kit is included in the sale.

The black interior features heated seats that have been refurbished with MB-Tex upholstery along with the rear deck. The headliner has been recovered with OEM material. The driver-side seat belt extender reportedly extends and retracts repeatedly until the belt is latched.

Instruments wear white faces and include a 6-digit odometer showing 144k miles. An aftermarket stereo replaces the original.

The 5.6L M117 V8 is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. New filters, belts, hoses, fuel injectors, spark plugs, and plug wires have been installed under current ownership along with a replacement exhaust system without resonators. Recent service included the installation of a new battery, a shift linkage repair, and an oil change as well as fitment of a new hood pad.

Four new Bilstein shocks have reportedly been installed along with replacement rear springs and accumulators. Fresh brake calipers, rotors, and pads, have also been fitted during the seller’s ownership. Additional underbody photos can be seen in the gallery below.
