BaT Auction: 2008 Porsche Cayman S Design Edition 1 6-Speed
This 2008 Porsche Cayman S Design Edition 1 is #107 of 777 examples built, and it was purchased by the seller more than six years ago with approximately 30k miles. The car has been owned in California from new and now has 71,400 miles. The Porsche Design Edition 1 was essentially a highly-optioned 987.1 Cayman S with a host of options and black accents throughout the vehicle. This example had an $88,275 MSRP and features a Sport Exhaust system, full-leather interior, dual power/heated seats, navigation, bi-xenon headlamps, self-dimming mirrors, Sport Chrono Package Plus, a 6-disc Bose sound system, and more. Power comes from a 3.4-liter flat-six paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. The car has been kept stock aside from removing the factory vinyl exterior stripes and adding a Borla stainless steel exhaust system at ~30k miles. This Design Edition 1 is now being offered with maintenance records back to new, the window sticker, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, an over-rev report, a clear Carfax, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
Aside from having the original vinyl exterior stripes professionally removed, the seller states that the exterior has been kept stock. The driver-side rocker panel was previously repainted to correct a scrape, and the included Carfax is free of accidents or damage reports. Current cosmetic flaws reportedly include paint chips on the nose and curb rash on the right-side wheels.
19×8.5″ front and 19×11″ rear Turbo-style alloy wheels came standard on the Design Edition 1. A set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires are currently mounted. Braking is handled by 12.5″ front and 11.8″ rear brake rotors with 4-piston calipers all around.
Design Edition 1 cars are equipped with a full-leather interior, which covers the seats, door panels, rear panels, center console, dashboard, and instrument binnacle. Alcantara covers the 3-spoke sport steering wheel, shifter, and emergency brake as detailed below.
Currently, the digital odometer shows just under 71,400 miles. Over 41k miles have been added by the seller during the past six years.
A plaque affixed to the glove box lid indicates that this car is #107 of 777 Porsche Design Edition 1 cars built.
The mid-mounted 3.4-liter flat-six produced 295 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque when new. Mechanicals have reportedly been kept stock aside from the stainless steel Borla exhaust system pictured above. A list of notable recent maintenance is provided below:
