Timothy Peters wins Truck race at Talladega after last-lap contact

Contact on the final lap of the Fr8auctions 250 between Timothy Peters and Noah Gragson sent one driver spinning and the other to victory lane.

Peters made contact with Gragson’s right rear quarter panel while battling for the lead, sending the No. 18 into the wall. Peters was ahead of the field as the caution waved to freeze the field.

Stage 1  and Stage 2 went caution free with a few close calls. It all boiled over in the final stage. On lap 59, Chris Fontaine changed lanes from the high side and came across the nose of playoff contender Justin Haley. Fontaine spun down into Johnny Sauter and then shot back up the track. When the smoke cleared, 10 trucks were heavily damaged included those of points contenders Matt Crafton and Ben Rhodes. Also involved were Parker Kligerman, Spencer Gallagher, John Hunter Nemechek, Bo LeMastus and Justin Fontaine. The accident brought out a red flag that lasted 11 minutes, 42 seconds.

Crafton finished fourth in Stage 1 and second in Stage 2 to earn 16 points before the accident. The crash damage was significant enough to cause him to retire in 26th.

Gallagher led the most laps (15) before the accident.

Sauter finished second in Stage 1 and third in Stage 2. That earned enough points to lock him into the Round of 6.

Rhodes was able to continue in his damaged truck, but spent the remainder of the race battling to get back on the lead lap. He has not able to make up his lap and finished below the cutoff line.
