BaT Auction: 1977 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ55
This 1977 FJ55 Toyota Land Cruiser is offered out of the personal collection of an avid Land Cruiser collector. It has been completely refreshed including interior and exterior paint and all new upholstery. The truck is in impressive condition with many original FJ55-specific parts intact. The original purchaser and owner for most all it’s life was Mrs. Baird’s Bread Company who purchased it new from Bay-Long Toyota on August 2, 1977. It was used at the owners’ Texas Ranch located near Killen, TX where it served on the ranch and quick runs into town. The ~34,700 miles shown are original thanks to that limited duty. The original selling paperwork, service manual, owner’s manual, insurance cards documenting provenance are included. It is offered with a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.
FJ55’s after 1975 received front disk brakes, and 1977 was the final year for these smaller taillights, so 1976 and 1977 trucks like this one are desirable. Rear disk brakes have also been added in place of the stock drums. The red and white paint scheme is the factory combo, and the Con-Ferr roof rack with stained wooden slats and Old Man Emu suspension components are the only aftermarket item. Original preserved documents show the original purchase price of $6,609 ($27,995 in today’s dollars). It is very rare to find an FJ55 that is documented back to the purchase day, and the previous owner spent $18k on the paint, body, and restoration work.
The interior features the original dash with the operational factory radio and speaker. The original Toyota rubber floor liner is present and in unusually nice condition.
The rear seat folds and stows to allow for carrying longer items. The factory jack components are present in their original mounts beneath the rear seat bottom.
The original 2F 6-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual transmission remain installed. Toyota Land Cruiser specialist Camelback Toyota performed all the mechanical work using OEM parts and the carburetor was also to factory specifications. Recent additional work by current owner (Feb this year) includes new clutch and cylinders, new stainless fuel lines, new starter, and a new rear window motor and switch repair.
The seller outlines the needs of the truck as follows:
- It could use a new smog pump belt
- Side roll down exterior window felts and rubbers need replacing
- Engine paint finish could be freshened up to make it shine more under the hood
- Seat belts are original and faded and dry- could be replaced for added safety
