BaT Auction: 2002 BMW M3 6-Speed
This 2002 BMW M3 is finished in Carbon Black Metallic over black Nappa leather and was originally sold in Canada. Imported to the US by the third owner, the car now shows 212k kilometers (~132k miles) and is powered by a 3.2-liter S54 inline-six paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. About 6k miles have been added by the seller during nine months of ownership, and a Turner Motorsport subframe reinforcement has been installed along with a new clutch and lightweight flywheel, as well as upgraded brakes from StopTech. This E46 M3 is now being offered with an accident-free Carfax report and a clean California title in the seller’s name
The car is finished in Carbon Black Metallic, and the seller notes that the driver’s door does not seal properly. There is some rust located on the left rear fender, as well as on the left mirror. According to the seller, the front bumper and side skirt were damaged when the car was shipped from Canada to California, and chips on the front of the car and a crack in the driver-side skirt can be seen in the gallery. The recent Carfax report shows no history of accidents or other damage.
Factory wheels wear Continental ExtremeContact tires, and StopTech brake pads and rotors have been installed in addition to stainless steel brake lines, RBF 600 brake fluid, and new front wheel hubs. The seller also had both front lower control arms replaced.
The interior is trimmed in black Nappa leather and came equipped with the Cold Weather Package, a Harman Kardon sound system, a multifunction steering wheel, and a power sunroof. 212k kilometers (~132k miles) are currently showing on the digital odometer, and modifications to the interior include a ZHP shift knob and BimmerWorld pedals. The seller notes that a bad voltage regulator is currently causing a check engine light and battery light to show up on the dash. The problem is reportedly also affecting the oil pressure gauge, which is no longer working despite the replacement of the oil level sensor.
The 3.2-liter S54 inline-six is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox and produced 333 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque when new. Service records dating back to 2014 are available, and the seller states that the previous owner had the factory rod bearing recall performed. Other maintenance has included:
- Inspection I performed in February 2018
- Clutch replaced
- Lightweight flywheel installed
- VANOS rebuilt with Besian kit
- Oil level sensor replaced
- Intake and exhaust cam sensors replaced
- New engine and transmission mounts
The seller had a Turner Motorsport subframe reinforcement kit installed, and receipts for this work can be seen in the gallery.
The Carfax shows no accidents or other damage reported, but does indicate a potential odometer rollback in 2008. The seller believes this was a clerical error caused by a kilometers to miles conversion issue. The Carfax also shows the car passed a California smog test in August of 2018. A cold start of this M3 can be viewed below.
