Make no mistake about it, Joey Logano is still fired up over his the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series championship that he captured with a win at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 18.

This week, the Logano Victory Tour landed at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. There, the 28-year-old first-time Cup champion had a chance to celebrate with the Ford family.

“Now that we’ve won one, I still can’t put it into words what it meant to myself, my family, my team, Ford Motor Company — there’s just so much effort that goes into it,” Logano said. “It’s a long time coming. It’s been a long time for Ford and it’s been a long time for myself.”

For the record, Logano’s win was the first for Ford since Kurt Busch’s championship for Jack Roush Racing in 2004. Logano also scratched an itch, finally capturing the sport’s biggest prize in his 11th season — his 10th full season — in the Cup Series.

Opinion Big Three How about the Elite Four Joey Loganos championship validates his place in this era

Joey Logano won the battle and he won the damn war, too. Those turned out to be famous last words from Martin Truex Jr. with Furniture Row Racing, who was powerless to prevent Logano from surging by on …

“This is, to me, the top level of motorsports in America and I’ve worked since I was 6 years old to do this,” Logano said. “This is all I’ve wanted to do since I was a little kid, and Santa Claus brought me a go-kart for Christmas. This was it.

“To reach this level is one thing, but to be able to reach the top of the sport, that’s something very few can say they’ve experienced. It’s just very special moment — there’s not just one or two words you can pack all of that into. That feeling is so hard to reproduce.”

And Logano knows he wasn’t alone in experiencing this unique racing moment.

“To me, my favorite moment is when I got out of the car and I could see everyone as excited as I was inside of the car,” Logano said. “The first five minutes after you take the checkered flag, you’re kind of by yourself in there and you’re going crazy.

“Then, you get out and see everyone else celebrating with you when you get to victory lane — you see Edsel (Ford II) and (Ford Performance boss Mark) Rushbrook and (engine guru) Doug (Yates), your parents, your wife, your kid. (Ford executive and former motorsports boss) Dave Pericak was like the first guy to the car — that man doesn’t lack any passion.”

Taking it one step further, Logano offered up where the Cup Series title ranks in the big picture.

“For me, it’s the birth of our child, my wedding day, and the championship — those are the top three days, however you line those up,” Logano said. “It’s a pretty big deal.”
