Yesterday’s comments of note

A few of the comments that stood out to us yesterday:

No Reserve: 1965 Rupp Dart Kart

“One mid-80s summer my dad bought a new rear engine riding lawn mower. As a 12-year-old gearhead, a plan naturally developed. After dad left for work the next day I started stripping his old mower of anything unnecessary. Mower deck gone, seat dropped to the frame. I rode my Schwinn Stingray to a Wheel Horse dealer in town and swapped out the large transmission pully for a smaller one and a belt. By afternoon I had something, but it wasn’t fast. That is, until I tied a shoe string from…”

No Reserve: 1965 Volkswagen Beetle

“Raise your hand if you learned to drive in a Beetle.”

sludgo's Mile Markers: Mile 13

“Welllllll, if Truth be told: The ‘B was my daily from the time I bought it in the fall of ’80 to around ’85. Daily. In NoDak and then Washington. Thank you Mr. Chilton. Thank you Mr. Haynes. In NoDak when it got super cold I’d put a tender on it because some days I’d have to crank it a bit….but then she’d start.

More Truth: it has always started and never left me stranded. To date.

Last Truth: This was a fun time of my life. Thanks for letting me share the memories….Peace….”

Toly Arutunoff's 1963 Lancia Flaminia Sport 3C Zagato

“I consider myself very fortunate to have met Toly twice and also saw this particular car once when he had it at Laguna Seca in 2008.

We were wandering around the paddock and caught Toly wrenching on the car before the race. I walked up, introduced myself as a fan boy and we took a picture together. Of course, that then turned into like 25 minutes of story telling about this car.

Second time we met was about 2 or 3 years ago. Toly was in Los Angeles for a few book signings for “Steering with…”

LS3-Powered 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

“This BAT community is a very nice bunch of folks that share a deep, mutual love of wonderful automobiles of all vintages and makes.

The support, appreciation and affection shared with Waggoner5 for his work and for this old Jeep sure was heartwarming.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a joyous holiday season with your families and loved ones.”
